| | UNIQUE MANTUA OHIO DOUBLE OGEE MASTER SALT
3 ¾h., Striated translucent amethyst , or a moonstone amethyst , some lead composition , double ogee shape on applied knop pedestal, sheared rim, applied foot, pontil scar; attributed to the Mantua Glass Works , Portage County, c.1822 , mint condition ( flat shallow open bubble on the interior bowl). A common misconception in regard to the amethyst pans, sugar bowls, salts, creamers, etc. made at the Mantua glass Works is that it is of soda lime composition, this is not the case. UV testing of the articles mentioned here reveals that they are certainly made with lead; rich in character, charm, form and color, this is the ultimate Mantua amethyst master salt made in the noted double ogee shape, there is none better!
